When are the students in Mr. Duran’s classes not learning or making something? Lately, the students in his ACE program have been creating cakes and are currently learning how to build fondant cakes. One important skill that they must learn to do on their own is to weigh out the icing in order to build two tier vanilla cakes with strawberry filling. Mmm sounds yummy! Theresa Medina, a newly joined Culinary Arts student thanks to the ACE Program, expressed, “my love for baking brought me here... but I can proudly say that I’m so thankful that I am able to express myself through my baking. Ever since I started baking at the beginning of the ACE program, I haven’t stopped. It’s a hobby I see one day growing into a passion and maybe even a career one day.” She isn’t the first student to say that she has grown a passion for Culinary Arts thanks to our amazing teacher Mr. Duran.
