Mr. Romero’s Law Enforcement Classes

Mr. Romero, the Law Enforcement teacher at La Feria Early College High School has a lot of great news! He is proud to announce that his Senior class has received the Level 1 Security Officer State Certification in December “This license allows the students to be a security guard anywhere… HEB, most malls, hospitals, and even schools. This is an unarmed position,” explained Mr. Romero. “Stop The Bleed” is another program that teaches our students and “prepares over 3 million people worldwide on how to stop bleeding in a severely injured person,” for the potential protection of active shooters. This is the same class that police officers receive and is a nationwide program. LFECHS students also have the opportunity to receive their CPR certification, which is given every 2 years through the American Heart Certification, and is given to Seniors and Sophomores through the Law Enforcement Pathway class called “Corrections.” Mr. Romero’s clubs are keeping busy too, he expressed to me, “we have our TPSA Regional Law Enforcement Competition January 26-27, where 10 schools will be participating, and at least 400-500 students competing.” On January 25, they are looking forward to helping with the Annual Fundamental Day- Special Olympics that the Honor Guard will help carry the flags with some of the students, and a field trip to the Cameron County courthouse with the Law 1 course students to see real life trials. “The kids get to experience first hand how the judicial process works, they get to talk to judges, attorneys, plaintiffs and attorneys…” It’s a very educational experience for them. It’s only the first week of the semester and everyone has so much to look forward to. These students are getting so many first hand experiences of what is applied in real life in Law Enforcement.
