STAAR/EOC for 3rd-12th Grade
The STAAR program for grades 3-8 assesses students in reading, mathematics, writing, science, and social studies.  Students taking certain high school courses are assessed through STAAR end-of-course (EOC) exams in Algebra I, Biology, English I, English II, and U.S. History.


Elementary School - STAAR

Middle School - STAAR

Student Performance Levels
Scores on STAAR assessments are used to determine levels of performance as follows:

  • Masters: Masters Grade Level - Shows mastery of the course content -- student is on track for college and career readiness.

  • Meets: Meets Grade Level - Shows strong knowledge of course content -- student is prepared to progress to the next grade. 

  • Approaches: Approaches Grade Level - Shows some knowledge of course content but may be missing critical elements -- student may need additional support in the upcoming year. 

  • Did Not Meet: Did Not Meet Grade Level - Shows a lack of basic understanding of course content -- student needs significant support in the coming year.

Time Limits full day time limit is in place for STAAR assessments for grades 3-8 as well as EOC exams in Algebra I, Biology, and U.S. History.  Students will be allowed five hours to complete EOCs in English I and English II.  Extended time accommodations are available for certain students with unique learning needs.   Test Versions STAAR tests are available in Spanish in grades 3 through 5.  STAAR Alt 2 Alternative versions of STAAR assessments are available to students for whom a committee (e.g. ARD, LPAC, 504) has determined a need for accommodations not available through regular STAAR assessments.   High School Graduation Requirements As one of the requirements for graduation, students must pass five EOC assessments English I, English II, Algebra I, Biology, and U.S. History .  Students may retest as many times as necessary in a subject area in order to meet this requirement.   Accelerated Instruction Required Accelerated instruction is required for any student who fails Grades 3-8 Reading, Math, Grades 5 & 8 Science, Grade 8 Social Studies and all 5 EOCs (Eng, I, Eng II, Alg I, Bio and US History).

  • required in Summer or during following school year for any student who fails to perform satisfactorily on STAAR (to 1 ratio unless parent waives)

  • Minimum of 15 hours of supplemental instruction for each test that the student failed to pass. 

  • Accelerated Education Plans are required for students who consecutively fail the same subject along with a minimum of 30 hours of supplemental instruction

Testing Calendar The state testing calendar is based on a calendar year, rather than on the academic year. Please note that these are subject to change and the official state assessment calendar should be consulted for specifics on testing dates.
