Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

September is indeed Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a month dedicated to raising awareness of pediatric cancer and supporting children and their families affected by this illness. There are many ways to participate and show support, such as volunteering to the cause, emotionally supporting families, donating, and of course, by GOING GOLD! Gold is the official color for childhood cancer awareness. Wearing gold ribbons or clothing can help spread awareness. According to the American Association for Cancer Research, “childhood cancer is relatively rare… is the leading cause of death from disease in children between the ages of 1 and 14 years old.” While wearing gold wristbands and t-shirts is fun, there is a deeper meaning behind the color of the piece of clothing that we wear. It is a month dedicated to ensuring that children can one day have cancer-free futures! At La Feria ISD, we recognise the importance of this awareness month and hope to inspire others to do the same.
