What is the matter, or should I say what is IN the matter? In Mrs. Macmanus’ 6th grade science, we have been learning about what makes up matter. The answer is atoms. Atoms often join to make molecules. We have studied mixtures and pure substances and how they are different. In class, we have been taking notes in our journals about the differences between the two, conducting experiments and doing activities to identify heterogeneous and homogeneous mixtures. We also learned about chromatography and how to separate the mixture of black ink into its color pigments. Currently, we are beginning to learn about elements and how they are classified on the Periodic Table as metals. nonmetals metalloids and rare Earth elements.
