Garden and Nature Club

The C.E. Vail ACE Garden and Nature Club has started a new vegetable garden! This semester, students have engaged in learning about a variety of nature topics, such as hummingbird migration, birds of the RGV, and beneficial insects. They have also learned the basic needs of plants, which helps to understand the fundamentals of starting a vegetable garden. Working alongside Mr. Juan Hernandez of Behavioral Health Solutions of South Texas,  they have assembled and created a garden design that includes raised garden beds. The garden beds are now prepared for fall and winter crops appropriate for South Texas weather,  broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, carrots, cabbage, lettuce, herbs, radishes, and peppers. Students will enjoy preparing recipes using the vegetables they have grown and gain the skills to one day grow a vegetable garden of their own and the concepts of food sustainability. Club participants range from grades 1 – 4 and are led by Mrs. J. Gonzalez and Miss S. Salazar.
